Happy New Year!

This new year kicks of the beginning of the Hard Back Book Project for the 2007-2008 school year.  Each class in grades K-5 will be working on a book in class. Younger students in grades K-2 do a class book where each student contributes a page of writing and a page of drawing while students in 3-5 will each be working on their own individual book. This is a wonderful experience for students to go through all of the steps of the writing process until each of us has a hardbound book which was printed and published in the States and sent back to us for our enjoyment. It is a an amazing feeling to hold your own hardbound book in your hands and know that you are published author.

In the upper grades...

3rd grade is working on fiction

4th grade is working on creation and nature myths

5th grade will be creating their very own Folktales...whether that be fairy tales, myths, fantasy, legend, tall tales or fables.  5th grade will also be using these stories in conjunction with a collaborative writing project that they will be working on with students from the United States. I look forward to reading their imaginative and creative stories.

If you are familiar with the Hard Back Book process, then you may be wondering why we are doing it so much earlier this year.  I will be leaving on maternity leave in March and so we will be getting the books done this year by FEBRUARY 29th. The good news is that our final drafts will be sent to the U.S. and will be printed right away so we will have them by the end of this school year and we will not have to wait until next year. This could prove to be a better way of doing the books for the future.

Expect information on how to buy a copy of your child's book to come home at the end of January.  If you have any questions you are always welcome to come visit me in the OLC or call 947-1071.
